Phosphorus contamination in polyethylene glycol.

چکیده

Concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Ca, Mg, K, and P were examined in untreated and ion exchange resin-treated solutions of polyethylene glycol, molecular weight 3000 to 3700, polyethylene glycol (PEG 4000). Relatively high levels of P were found in untreated PEF-4000 solutions. The concentration of contaminating P in solutions prepared from untreated PEG 4000, even at high water potentials (-1 to -3 bars), was greater than what is usually found in soil solution. Occurrence of significant amounts of P in untreated PEG could introduce problems in experiments where (32)P and PEG are used together and where phosphate interactions may occur.

Polyethylene glycol 4000 as a continuously administered non-absorbable faecal marker for metabolic balance studies in human subjects.

The use of polyethylene glycol 4000 as a non-absorbable, continuously fed faecal marker is described. The intestinal handling and transit of polyethylene glycol is compared with that of chromium sesquioxide and barium sulphate. Polyethylene glycol is an acceptable non-absorbable faecal marker for calcium, phosphorus, and fatty acids, and has several features which commend its use in preference ...

Effect of Polyethylene Glycol and Senna Bowel Preparation in Dogs on Some Hematological and Serum Biochemical Parameters

Background: Colonoscopy is the preferred procedure for diagnosis of large-bowel diseases in dogs. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is the most commonly used laxative for colonic cleansing. Senna has been used in traditional medicine as a laxative and an aid to treat constipation. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of senna as an alternative or adjunct to polyethylene glycol s...

Inhibition of phosphorus and water passage across intact roots by polyethylene glycol and phenylmercuric acetate.

Application of polyethylene glycol or phenylmercuric acetate to intact bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L., cv. Red Wade) roots inhibited passage of phosphorus across the roots to the xylem. The same results occurred for foliar application of phenylmercuric acetate when time was allowed for absorption and distribution of the chemical in the plant. For both chemicals the inhibition of phosphorus was pro...

Human plasma derived drugs separation by fractionation of plasma with polyethylene glycol

Background: There are varieties of purification techniques for separation of human plasma proteins such as salting out, ion exchange chromatography, and ethanol fractionation. There are limitations for each method, for example in salting out method, the salt has to be removed in an additional step. Ion exchange chromatography is difficult for scaling up, and plasma fractionation is a time consu...
